welcome
Yoga Yurts is a business, a home and a way of life. We live on a farm in Biggin Hill, North Kent, in a collection of yurts (Mongolian Tents). We decided to live in this way to satisfy a need in us for more nature and a yearning for a connectedness to the land around us. We both grew up in the city and felt that it wasn't our natural home. Creating and sharing space has been a constant theme for us both for many years so in 2005 we decided to open up our space to others and began running yoga days and yoga retreats. Although feedback was great we found that the retreats depleted our energy in a way we couldn't have imagined and therefore we decided to concentrate on one day activities. On Yoga Days we open up our home; we share our space, our yoga and a different way of life with those who come to visit.

You can expect a lot more from a day at Yoga Yurts than your average yoga workshop. It is as much the space as the actual practice that allows you to let go and release from the previous weeks and months. Centred around a fire pit with a continually boiling kettle are a collection of Yurts, Mongolian dwellings. Living and working in these circular spaces are myself, Hannah, and my partner Roger and our two dogs Bovis and Kali. The appeal of Yoga Yurts for those living in square buildings, probably in a street, perhaps stacked on top of others is that there appears to be an energetic shift that occurs when spending even just a few hours in such a different environment. The circular spaces allow the energy we give out to flow freely and the yurt is often described as a healing space. Added to this is the contact with the sounds, smells, beauty and challenges of nature that help to draw us back to a more instinctive way of being. The yoga practice helps us to connect with Nature and our own inner nature and let go of the trappings of our society and ego.

As well as the yoga days with both ourselves and guest teachers sharing their knowledge, regular weekly yoga classes are held in the Yurt. Paul Goodwin also runs the occasional Sweatlodge. The space is also available for you to run your own workshop, or to bring your yoga students. Most of our activities are on the weekends but we are available to host events during the week, particularly useful during the school holidays when other venues are often closed.

Most of the information you should need about Yoga Days and other activities at Yoga Yurts is available here but please call or email if you have further questions. If you'd like to be kept up to date of upcoming events and any changes to the schedule please join our mailing list.

We also sell imported Yoga related products from Nepal and Thailand, which we sell under the name of Passage. 10% of the profits from Passage go directly to children's charities in Thailand and Nepal (we hope to have details of all our stock on the website soon, until then please call if you are interested). We regularly take our shop to local BWY yoga days and are happy to bring our 'shop' along to your yoga days if you'd like to add a little interest to the day.
